The Complete Bird Songs Audio Book

Spring hasn’t officially sprung yet, but in many regions of the world milder weather has people thinking that spring is already here. Maybe the groundhog screwed up this year. Bird enthusiasts are polishing their binoculars and getting ready to hit the outdoors to enjoy the symphony that’s about to take place. Since it’s tricky to identify each and every bird’s song, the Complete Bird Songs Audio Book is a good, quick reference for birders to consult on a whim.

Complete Bird Songs Audio Book

The Complete Bird Songs Audio Book

This oversized audio book plays the songs and calls of every breeding bird in North America–747 in all–recorded in the field by the renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The most comprehensive book of avian species ever published for North America, it helps dedicated birders or curious novices differentiate between songs and calls to identify each species’ unique audible characteristics, such as the zee-zee-zee-zreeeeee of the Black-Throated Blue Warbler or the distinctively loud THREE BEEERS! of the Olive-Side Flycatcher.

Much more than a typical field guide, it provides each bird’s distribution, habitat, and behavior. Scientifically accurate maps display species’ breeding, year-round, and wintering ranges while brilliant color illustrations display species’ unique crests, plumage, bills, beaks, claws, and spurs. Hardcover. 536 pages. Includes three AAA batteries. 14 1/4″ H x 13 1/4″ W x 2″ D.
Lifetime guarantee.

Though the book looks like those gadgety books for kids that make a lot of noise, it’s actually quite sophisticated because it comes loaded with 747 different North American bird recordings. You’ll also find a nice description about each bird along with vivid and detailed images to help with bird identification. Sharing this book with the kids is a way to get them excited about birds and nature and introduce them to life beyond Angry Birds and Twitter. Also, they won’t be able to resist pushing the buttons to hear all the amazing bird sounds.

The book will look great on a coffee table or bookshelf with its beautiful light-blue hardcover and a contrasting image of two goldfinches. Go to Hammacher Schlemmer to buy the Complete Bird Songs Audio Book for $124.95.

This seems like a great book! However, one minor comment on the review, the birds on the blue front cover are not Goldfinches, but are Blue-winged Warblers. Thought you might want to change that
