Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. Yes, you’ll actually be able to say that phrase when you’re on the World’s First Flying Bicycle, because this super-cool ride can easily take to the air when the road runs out.
Designed to function as either a bicycle or a flying ultralight para-trike aircraft, this unique bike features a three-bladed carbon fiber propeller that lets the aircraft reach airspeeds up to 25 mph, and a para-wing deployed from an integrated backpack to provide lift. A full tank of gas provides a flying range of approximately 75 miles while flying at altitudes below 4,000 feet.
On the ground, with the para-wing tucked in the backpack, the 4-foot-wide frame allows for operating like a regular bicycle. It even folds down to fit in the trunk of a car.
You probably don’t expect the convenience of traveling by both land and air to be cheap, and you’d be right. The World’s First Flying Bicycle is available for $45,000 at Hammacher Schlemmer.
