Peddle power becomes electricity with the Self-Charging Electric Bike, and it even folds for convenient storage.
The first thing you might notice about this unique bike is that it doesn’t have a chain. That’s because the bicycle is powered by electricity, which is generated by peddling. The peddles are attached to a built-in alternator that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy, letting you achieve speeds up to 16MPH.
The battery lets you travel 18 miles on a full charge without any peddling required or you can boost that distance to 28 miles by peddling. The bike recharges in 5 1/2 hours with the included AC adapter.
- 2 1/2-inch color LCD on the handle bars allow riders to easily select pedal resistance, acceleration, and speeds up to 16 MPH
- Chainless hybrid drive system with an automatic dual winding motor
- Aluminum frame with a carbon-fiber single fork
- 20″-diameter tires
- Dual hand brakes
- Folds to 1/3 its size for storage. 64″ L x 46″ H x 24″ W. (47 3/4 lbs.)
The Self-Charging Electric Bike is available for $3,800 at Hammacher Schlemmer.
