Today (June 21, 2018) Minecraft was released for the Nintendo Switch. While it has been available digitally from the Nintendo eShop since May 11, 2017, this is technically the first retail release because it is the first time it is available physically in stores. They are no longer selling the digital version online at the Nintendo eShop, although you can still get updates if you already own the digital copy.
This new one is also a brand new version of Minecraft for the Switch because it uses the Bedrock engine. This means it now joins Windows 10, Xbox One, VR and mobile devices that already have the cross-play compatibility Better Together update, meaning Nintendo Switch users can now play with users on those other platforms.
If you are a current owner of Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, upgrade to this new version by downloading it from the Nintendo eShop or following the prompts in-game. All of the existing DLC content is transferable from Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition to this new version of Minecraft.
