It’s made by Montegrappa, the Italian luxury company that still makes its products in the original factory in Vicenza that dates back to the company’s founding in 1912. It also still goes by the slogan, “Manifattura pennini d’oro e penne stilografiche,” which in English is “Maker of gold nibs and fountain pens.”
And gold is one of the reasons this pen is so expensive, as it is loaded with quite a bit of 18k gold. Yet this pen would still stand out without the gold, due to the fabulously detailed design that includes figures of the dragon Viserion, Night King, and White Walker.
Available in an extremely limited edition of only seven pieces world-wide, this 18k gold “Winter is Here” hand-crafted pen by Montegrappa is perhaps the most spectacular of all Game of Thrones collectibles.

Launched by Montegrappa to coincide with the final season of Game of Thrones, “Winter is Here” is half pen, half objet d’art. As the name implies, the pens — available in sterling silver and 18k gold editions — pay homage to the mysterious forces from north of The Wall.
Three-dimensional effigies of the Night King and White Walker form a superstructure that encases the pen’s barrel. The pen cap sheltering the nib is a real masterpiece of design. The figure of the dragon Viserion wraps it completely, and the dragon’s head with the tongue of ice coming out of his mouth acts as an innovative pocket clip. Enameled, crystal blue flames encircle the base of the cap, while apatite semi-precious stones emulate the cold, mysterious eyes unique to beings of the North.
“Winter is Here” is available as a piston-fill fountain pen and a roller ball pen, in both sterling silver and 18k gold. All editions use a precious metal superstructure to clad a body of shiny lines celluloid. Highlight materials include ice-blue Apatite gems and 3D handcrafted enamel. The fountain pen uses an 18k gold nib engraved with the sigil — or emblem — of the Night King. All editions are delivered in a deluxe, black-lacquer wooden case with a custom booklet.
