Unfortunately, we can’t just flip to PBS and expect Bob Ross to appear and give us the low-down on how to paint spectacular landscapes on canvas. Although the late painter’s show “The Joy of Painting” went off the air a while ago, you can still purchase The Bob Ross Painting Tutorial DVD Set and get re-inspired.
It’s amazing to watch Ross create his scenic paintings so quickly and effortlessly. Even if you have no intention of making a painting, just hearing his voice and watching him at work will instantly decrease your blood pressure and make you believe that all is good in the world. With all the fast-paced shows on steroids on TV right now, it’s therapeutic to escape the insanity with serene shows like “The Joy of Painting.”
The Bob Ross Painting Tutorial
This is the 20-lesson DVD tutorial for aspiring oil painters featuring Bob Ross, host of public television’s popular Joy of Painting from 1983-1994. Each half-hour episode reinforces Ross’ Wet-on-Wet Technique, a fast, simple method of painting that anyone can master, regardless of artistic ability. Delivered in Ross’ soft-spoken, nurturing manner, students can paint along with the master as he creates majestic mountain scenes, mighty waterfalls, graceful seascapes, and rustic rural landscapes, along with his catchphrase “Happy little trees”. Ten hours on 10 DVDs. Box: 11 1/2″ H x 10″ W x 2 1/2″ D. (3 lbs.)
If you do want to create some awesome masterpieces like Bob, then these DVDs will teach you how by the master himself. If he goes too fast for you, simply go back to where you got lost and replay. If you need to pick up some more ‘Yellow Ocre’ or new paintbrushes at the store, press pause and resume when you’re all set.
Another truly unique item we discovered last year was the Bob Ross Finger Puppet.
