Now that “The Hunger Games” has become a sensation, it’s given rise to new wardrobe inspired by leading character Katniss Everdeen. To look like casual Katniss, you could wear a prop replica of her arena jacket, or you can get glamorous and wear the Katniss Everdeen Girl On Fire Costume.
I wish I had spotted this earlier in time to rock it at Ottawa’s Comic-Con this weekend. But if you plan on hitting up San Diego’s Comic-Con, going on July 12-15, it’s definitely prime time to order this elegant, fitted Katniss gown so that it’s prêt-à-porter come July.
Are you ready to be a Girl On Fire???
Here is Katniss Everdeen’s Capitol presentation outfit, inspired by the movie costume. This costume, interpreted, patterned and made by me is a two piece outfit consisting of un-lined fitted jacket and long slim pencil skirt with side slits. Made out of a shiny blue/black knit backed vinyl, the fitted jacket has corset seaming and features a zip front, standing collar, and long bell sleeves that fit down low on the hand just like the movie costume. The jacket, with boning enclosed in the seams and top-stitched for structure, is trimmed with black satin piping. Shoulders are dramatically trimmed in pointed flame shaped epaulettes. The smooth sleek fitting sheath skirt has openings to the knee in the side seams and an invisible side waist zipper.
It’s powerful, it’s goth, it’s pop culture, it’s haute-couture, it’s sexy… so much going on for this costume. You can look like Katniss or invent your own superheroine look with it. The fabric reflects the light yet doesn’t blind anyone, while the pointy epaulettes, zipper and long slit along the skirt are flattering on the right figure.
