Smens Scented Gourmet Pens

Finally, there’s a new type of scented writing tool on the block. They aren’t noxious like the fumes from Sharpies and EXO Dry-Erase markers, or too kiddish and overbearing like fruity-smelling markers, instead they have a gourmet edge to them; much like the edge Jelly Belly has on the average jelly bean. Smens Scented Gourmet Pens are ballpoint pens that come in a set of 10 tantalizing aromas.

• Dimensions (per tube): 7.5″ x 0.5625″ diameter
• Made from 100% recycled newspaper and biodegradable plastic
• Black ink

• Scents (1-5): black licorice, pink lemonade, passion fruit, mocha, creamsicle
• Scents (6-10): red licorice, ninja berry, banana fo fana, caramel corn, aloha

You’re not going to get boring old scents like cherry, strawberry and orange. Instead you’ll inhale notes of passion fruit, ninja berry and creamsicle, for more sophisticated noses. Ooh-la-la!  Unfortunately, the ink color doesn’t match each scent. It’s going to be your standard, reliable black ink each time. But you can’t really go wrong with black ink, right?

Something that’s not so blatantly obvious at first glance is how eco-friendly these pens are. The way the fragrances are infused into the pen is genius. Recycled newspapers get soaked in a delightful, liquidy fragrance, then are dried and rolled to form the pen barrel. But to keep the pen smelling delicious for 2 years, the barrel is kept in a biodegradable tube derived from corn plastic. Talk about creative!

Unlike scented markers, it’s not the ink itself that you are smelling. It’s more like getting whiffs of perfume sprayed on a sample card, but the sample lasts for 2 long years.

One potential side effect from these pens is having the urge to snack on something sweet. I don’t recommend pen chewers or dieters to buy a set of gourmet pens. Perhaps the Dine Ink Pen Cap Utensils would be a better choice.
