Weird CD Shapes

Baba Akcja, a designing group founded by three students from the Academy of Fine Art in Warsaw, Poland, are the creators of these cool looking CD’s.

With shapes like floppy discs, viruses and saw blades, it might be hard to squeeze them into your music player. But who uses CD’s these days, anyway?

  • Hm, I think they would fit and spin just perfectly. I have seen credit card sized and shaped cds before. Its a wonder that noone yet has marketed a heart-shaped compactdisc filled up with pop-love songs yet.
Could I get some info on whether they are functional or not?

  • asymmetrical cds like those would make the drive vibrate, and at the speed it rotates it would probably damage it very soon

  • setting aside the mechanics of the spinning disc, only the largest circle to fit in the shape would be playable. For instance the heart shaped one. Drawing a circle from the centre of the disc, the data would only go up until that circle hits the closest edge of the heart. the rest is left blank.
