  1. If you’re going to run a web site called geek alerts, you should be aware that people who are fans of Star Trek refer to themselves as “Trekkers”, not “Trekkies”. The latter term is considered an insult.

  2. Some Trekkies don’t consider it an insult. At the 1972 New York City convention a group of us voted. It was decided (by that admittedly small sample) that “Trekkie” was anyone who became a fan during the initial NBA run of the show (1966-1969) and “Trekker” was anyone who first saw it in reruns… So there!!!
