IronKey – Self-Destructing USD Drive

Does your USB drive contain stuff slightly more sensitive than animated Dancing Baby GIF’s and “Send this hug to 10 persons” email templates? Then you might want to go with this Mission: Impossible one.

The IronKey thumb drive is encased in a potted metal case and can hold up to 4 GB of password protected data. The user will get 10 incorrect password attempts, after that the encryption chip self-destructs, making the contents of the flash drive totally unreadable.

The contents of the drive are filled with epoxy, so if a hacker tries to physically access the chips, he’d more likely damage them instead. Even if he did get access to the memory chips, they’d be worthless without the encryption chip. Electron-shielded, even a scanning electron microscope can’t get inside.

Currently only the 2 GB version is available. 1 and 4 GB are coming soon.
