Yes SC, that sounds exactly like one of those moments where a USB microscope like this would come in handy.

Thanks for your comment!

Maybe this could be a great gift for anybody that makes presentations. If it can Zoom out far enough to show a full size sheet of paper (8.5" x 11") AND the person has a computer AND the person uses a projector and the computer in his or her presentations.

For teachers who have LCD projectors and a computer connected to the projector, but who can't get ahold of a document camera or document reader for showing student work to the whole class in "real time", this COULD be an option...IF, like I said, it can zoom OUT far enough.

What about zooming OUT capabilities? I currently have an ELMO (Brand Name) document camera (or document reader?). It does have a "microscope" function which I used to show students the head of a live praying mantis. It was like watching National Geographic! Yet I can also zoom out far enough to take a picture of something at least 15 feet away...

The ELMO is more expensive than this gadget here, but the version I have does not take video, only still pics.

[...] If you have the knack for nano-life this high-res USB microscope might feed your curiosity addiction. Just plug it in and point it at anything tiny and minuscule and watch all the glory details on your screen, in full color, with up to 200x magnification. The package also includes a free 2GB online storage so you can share your interesting findings with the world. The USB Microscope is available for £49.95 (about $80 USD). [GeekAlerts] [...]

Thanks Bob, but I don't think that's the same USB microscope. It has a lower resolution and it doesn't say anything about the 2GB online storage.

[...] We’ve seen digital microscopes before, but few can claim that they have a 1600×1200 sensor, 200x magnification and 2 GB of free online storage. This £50 device works improves upon last year’s 640×480 Microscope Pen from the same company, and lets you take stills or AVI movies.. And the test pics from the microscope don’t look half bad (if they’re actually real). The USB microscope can be found over at [IWOOT via Geek Alerts]. [...]
