The London-based Arcade Memories company has released the Optime Strategies Table, a cool alternative to the Arcade Gaming Table we saw earlier this year.

The Optime Strategies Table is a totally authentic reproduction of the original tabletop arcade games that were present in every self-respecting pub and club in the 1980s. Officially known as ‘cocktail’ cabinets, the games achieved cult status with classic titles like ‘Space Invaders’, ‘Donkey Kong’ and ‘Track & Field’, played face to face across the table rather than upright in the usual arcade style.

This interactive table, created by the Australian Lightwell company, is currently at display at the Australian Museum as part of the “Surviving Australia” exhibition.

It features interactive screen applications and atmospheric/informative video programs to let the visitors explore some of Australia’s most dangerous animals.

The largest and most ambitious multimedia element in the exhibition is a six-metre long interactive table exploring Australia’s deadliest top ten. The saltwater crocodile, funnel web spider, box jelly fish, brown snake – what happens if you encounter them and what should you do to survive? Scurrying across sand or lurking under rippling waters, the table’s inhabitants respond immediately to prying visitors in a scarily life-like way.

Created using custom software running on Mac OS X, visitors can interact directly with these ‘dangerous Australians’ and enjoy an immersive and informative experience. As well as risk being bitten or attacked, visitors can use a magnifying glass tool to get a closer look, or find out more about each creature’s habitat and behaviour, or first aid treatment. Multiple users can interact with the table at any one time, making the experience all the more fun and lively.

The personal feeds from webapplications like Plazes, Flickr, and Last.fm tell much about the activity of an individual on the internet. In this project we aim to explore how you can visualize the changes of your web identity over time and create a physical link between your virtual and real identity. The interface consists of both a physical table and a web application. This direct feedback from your web identity is customizable and can be connected to any RSS feed.

The UK based Kloss company has come up with a table that almost makes the Interactive LED Coffee Table feel like something for your camping trip.

The DeLighTable is now commercially available after more than two years of development. The tables are made to order, and the typical lead time is four to six weeks. The price is $2,300.

The real work obviously lies in the pressure sensitive surface, but now it also comes in an attractive casing. With a framework finished in polished stainless steel, DeLighTable has taken the guise of a slim coffe table only twenty five millimetres thick.

There’s no stop to what kind of ideas people come up with when it comes to recycling stuff, which of course is a great thing.
