The reason for closing down GeekAlerts is simply that it takes too much time – a luxury that I’m afraid I don’t have at the moment. The decision hasn’t been easy and I am truly sorry for having to do it, but I still feel it’s the right thing to do.

Elefante is the name of this playful elephant lamp designed by Sarfors bObles Northern Lighting, a Swedish manufacturer of multifunctional furniture for young and old.

The white plastic lamp will provide you with a nice soft light. The Elefante is available in the PID store and showroom in Stockholm, Sweden for 599 SEK (about $74 USD).

Alexander Lervik, a furniture, interior and product designer from Sweden, has created the MYBrain – a desk lamp that is actually a replica of his own brain.

A replica of the designer’s brain, originated from an MR scan at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. The image was processed through a 3D-printer, and became this unusual lamp shade design. Yes, it is bright.

Per Emanuelsson and Bastian Bischoff, two designers from the HDK school of design and crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden, has designed this cool looking surveillance inspired light source.

Recent discussion about surveillance in society inspired the creation of a piece of furniture with an Orwellian ‘1984′ feel to it. “Blending the typical appearance of a surveillance camera with a standing lamp is an ambiguous refection of our thoughts about the political future” says the creators of surveillance light for HDK school of design and crafts at Stockholm Furniture Fair, February 6-10.

Minimoo is the name of a new line of Swedish manufactured USB drives shaped like animals. There are currently four different models to choose from.

You have Göran (turtle), Fredrik (gorilla), Jan (sheep), and Maud (pig). Each one is available in four memory sizes: 1GB ($43), 2GB ($58) and 4GB ($74).

The Swedish telecom- and consumer electronics company Doro has announced its HandleEasy 326 GSM, a simple user friendly mobile phone developed for the older target audience.

The white phone features oversized black buttons and a high contrast screen. The A to D buttons allows the user to create up to four speed dials.

The Doro HandleEasy 326 GSM will cost around 1 200 Swedish kronor (about $187 USD) when it’s released some time during the next month.

Pupill (Swedish for “pupil”) is the name of the latest product from Drosselmeyer Designgroup AB – a Swedish company that started out in 2002.

Pupill is a stylish candle holder that will fit all candles, from tea lights to thin antique candles, thanks to its innovative design.

You twist the collar of the holder so that two heels slide in and grabs a hold of the bottom of the candle and puts it in the middle of the “eye”.

The price will be 350 Swedish kronor (about $60 USD) when Pupill hits a few handpicked designer stores around Sweden some time soon.

Fredrik Mattson is the name of the designer behind these cool looking ninja star inspired coat hangers – created for the Swedish design studio Maze International.

R’bot is an electro-mechanical multimedia robot buddy, developed by the Swedish Awerks AB company.

You can enjoy listening to MP3 files through its built-in mono speaker or by using stereo headphones supporting Bluetooth (A2DP). The RAM memory capacity is 4 GB and there’s also a Memory Stick Pro Duo slot.

On the face of the R’bot you’ll find a 320×130 px OLED screen which can display various face expressions. He is also able to read out emails, SMS messages, RSS Feeds and documents.

Still not enough to satisfy your daily need of robot geekiness? Ok, here we go: It can walk around on your desk without falling over the edge and there’s a built-in fire alarm with a one-touch 112 dial up.
