The Silverlit company is continuing to come up with fun new ideas for their steadily growing stream of radio-controlled toys. The latest example is the Planet Protector.

This futuristic helicopter features a brave pilot who is “defending the Earth against invaders by attacking their spy satellite station with his infra-red laser beam”.

You can fly the Planet Protector on a mission to defeat the satellite station and when you score a direct hit it’ll explode in a blast of light and noise! But the fun’s not over there, as it can be re-assembled for another round of battle!

Here’s a video demonstration of the Planet Protecto in action:

Featuring Silverlit’s famous super-wide infrared control system and fast charging through the transmitter unit, together with sturdy construction that means it can handle bumpy landings or crashes and get right back into the air again afterwards, the Planet Protector is an awesome ground-attack challenge! Auto-stability and precision controls mean it’s easy to learn to fly too.

The Silverlit Planet Protecto will soon be available from the Thumbs Up UK website. The suggested retail price has been set to £34.99 (about $52 USD).

Silverlit, the company known for their airborne radio-controlled toys, now has a new product for those who prefer staying on the ground; a 1:12 scale Ducati motorcycle.

Its main feature is the fact the biker actually leans from side to side which is made possible by a built in gyro. It has spring suspensions in case you want to try a few jumps and digital proportion steering giving you great control.

You also have the ability to adjust the throttle response (this means you can have either the bike accelerating quickly, gently or in between) and braking strength.

Here’s a video of the bike in action (unfortunately, without sound):

Features:

1:12 scale licensed vehicle

Digital Proportional control

27MHz FM modulation radio control

Steering trim system

Brake endpoint adjustment

Throttle rate selector

Battery low detection

Support PPM coding method

Available in two frequencies

The Silverlit R/C Ducati motorcycle will start shipping at the end of September 2008 and can now be pre-ordered from the Red5 website for £50 (about $96 USD).

The flying features are similar to most flying indoor RC machines which means a 10-15 minute charge gives you 20-25 flying time (charge directly from the remote).

Here’s a video clip of the R/C stingray in action:

The Stingray also comes with a free IR booster, which in the past had to be purchased separately. This means the Stingray can be controlled over greater distances with an increased infra-red range.

It is made from EPP (expanded polypropylene) which is a durable yet lightweight material and comes in 3 frequencies which means you can have 3 flying at the same time.

The R/C Stingray is available from Red5 for £25 (about $49 USD).

Many scientists and engineers have attempted to create machines that mimic the way a bird flies with varying degrees of success, but now Silverlit has perfected mini-ornithopter technology to create some of the smallest flapping wing RC models in existence.

Here’s a video clip of the Silverlit iWings in action:

Packed with state of the art technology, i-Wings joins the i-Fairy and i-Bird as one of the latest generation of RC flying toys that provide an unparalleled level of control and stability both indoors and out. Simple and fun to fly, i-Wings is ready to take flight straight out of the box and ultra-tough to survive the roughest landings.

Controlled via an infra-red transmitter that also charges the built-in Li-Poly battery this is one of this year’s most exciting flying toys!

Currently touted as the world’s smallest remote control chopper, this marvel of micro technology will flatter even the crummiest of pilots thanks to an auto stability system that makes woka-woka-ing around in tiddly rooms a doddle.

Here’s a video of the PicooZ MX-1 Extreme in action:

Just like its bigger PicoZ siblings, the twin-channel Extreme has a crash-resistant polypropylene foam body and features super-wide infra-red control, a built-in lithium polymer battery and adjustable trim control – all this yet it weighs just 7 grams. It really is squintingly small. As ever, the transmitter doubles up as a charger and a normal charge of 20-25 minutes should give flight times of up to 10 minutes.

Why it’s so small it even fits inside a built-in compartment in its transmitter/charging unit. This means you can carry the entire shebang in one hand. Amazing!
