In stark contrast with the original Wii-mote set, what was once sleek, cold, white and hard plastic has now become a slightly fuzzy, natural, warm and textured concoction. No more bland, branded and boring but mottled, flawfull, rough and a tad sweat absorbing.

The Hemp-Mote is absolutely playable, all buttons, accelerometers and the infrared camera accounted for. Unfortunately its exterior is also quite fragile and prone to degeneration, being in the raw state that it is.

This Taru-Konga drum controller lets you pound your way through the classic Donkey Kong platform game from Nintendo – smack left drum: Donkey Kong moves left, smack right drum: Donkey Kong steps right, smack both drums: DK jumps, clap: DK claps to create a sonic boom.

Since every ape needs a snappy skill, Nintendo has given DK a clap move where banana-sized fingers create a sonic boom when the player claps two hands together.

Kong will also engage in fights from time to time and the drums are used to throw out left hooks and right jabs by hitting the left or right drum. The fighting puts the term “Jungle Beat” in a new light. Clapping makes DK bob and weave like a champ.

A regular cartridge was too small a base, so I measured one and made a 1.5 scale replica out of cardboard, and screwed the gun to it. I weighted it with stones, and then tackled the shade.

I picked up a $2 shade at the re-store, a pack of fun foam, and voila! After hours and hours of cutting pixellated shapes, I was done! A little dab of glue to secure the shade, and… ta dah!

The KORG DS-10 is the world’s first music creation software for Nintendo DS – combining the interface of the popular handheld game console and the design of the famous MS-10 synthesizer.

The sound sources in the KORG DS-10 come from KORG – one of the world’s top musical instrument producers – and no effort was spared in creating these ultra-high-quality sounds. The Nintendo DS’s dual-screen touch panel is used to the fullest to provide a feel and operability that is unsurpassed, and combined with the sensory input mode at the touch-control screen, this unit can be appreciated by the complete novice as well as the seasoned professional.

Here’s a demo video of the KORG synthesizer for Nintendo DS:

In addition to the two analog synth simulators and drum module, a 6-track/16-step sequencer enables precise control and provides a wide range of musical possibilities. Several units can be connected and played together through a wireless link, and this and other features make the Nintendo DS and KORG DS-10 almost limitless in their application – they can take you places that no single synthesizer can.

Six-track (analog synth x 2, drum machine x 4) /16-step sequencer

Get dressed for success with the Mario costume and get ready for some fun in true gaming geek style with the Carrera Mario Kart Go slot-racing system.

This high quality Carrera slot-racing system is fun for racing geeks of all ages as it brings the smash hit Nintendo game to life in a way that pixels and bleeps simply can’t compete with. Featuring top quality 1:43 scale versions of Mario’s colourful B Dasher and Wario’s Brute, Carrera Mario Kart Go is fully licensed by Nintendo so you know you’re racing around in the same crazy vehicles featured in the ludicrously addictive games.

With over 20ft of looping, swooping, curving, swerving race track, this is no walk in the park. There’s even a chicane and a gravity-defying banked section that will have you holding your breath every time you whizz round. Talking of whizzing around, racers control their cars using handheld trigger style speed guns. Mario minus a joystick? Whatever next!

The Mario Kart Go is available for £49.95 (about $100 USD) from Firebox.

A “pre-test” version of Robodance 4 will be out before Christmas, by December 23 of this year. While somewhat lacking in polish and sporting a fair number of bugs, it is fully functional.

The formal release will be the end of February 2008, but if you’re adventurous and would like to help test Robodance 4’s WiiMote support and gesture recognition capability, you can get that chance in about a week.
