Modder DHRECK has just finished his first Nintedno Wii controller modifications, an original Wiimote and Nunchuk made with three kinds of 100% natural hemp string.

In stark contrast with the original Wii-mote set, what was once sleek, cold, white and hard plastic has now become a slightly fuzzy, natural, warm and textured concoction. No more bland, branded and boring but mottled, flawfull, rough and a tad sweat absorbing.

The Hemp-Mote is absolutely playable, all buttons, accelerometers and the infrared camera accounted for. Unfortunately its exterior is also quite fragile and prone to degeneration, being in the raw state that it is.

This Taru-Konga drum controller lets you pound your way through the classic Donkey Kong platform game from Nintendo – smack left drum: Donkey Kong moves left, smack right drum: Donkey Kong steps right, smack both drums: DK jumps, clap: DK claps to create a sonic boom.

Since every ape needs a snappy skill, Nintendo has given DK a clap move where banana-sized fingers create a sonic boom when the player claps two hands together.

Kong will also engage in fights from time to time and the drums are used to throw out left hooks and right jabs by hitting the left or right drum. The fighting puts the term “Jungle Beat” in a new light. Clapping makes DK bob and weave like a champ.

Craftster member fluffypants from Ontario, Canada has put together this fun and cool looking lamp using a Nintendo zapper and a Duck Hunt cartridge.

A regular cartridge was too small a base, so I measured one and made a 1.5 scale replica out of cardboard, and screwed the gun to it. I weighted it with stones, and then tackled the shade.

I picked up a $2 shade at the re-store, a pack of fun foam, and voila! After hours and hours of cutting pixellated shapes, I was done! A little dab of glue to secure the shade, and… ta dah!

Remember those adorable Nintendo Wii Mii wedding cake figures? The same store (I guess), Paul Pape Designs Geekery Store, now offers the gaming avatars as chocolate treats for Valentine’s Day.

This brand new video shows an i-SOBOT robot being controlled by arm gestures with the help of the Nintendo Wii controller and the Nunchaku attachment. At the heart of the video is the free Robodance 4 software.

System requirements:

• Windows PC running Windows 2000 or better (Windows XP is recommended for the Skype control system)
• Infrared transmitter: USB UIRT or Lego Mindstorms SERIAL tower (not USB)
• Nintendo Wii Controller and Nunchaku attachment (Wii console *not* required)
• Bluetooth transceiver (note many systems, especially laptops, already have a Bluetooth transceiver)
• Microphone headset (for voice control usage)

A “pre-test” version of Robodance 4 will be out before Christmas, by December 23 of this year. While somewhat lacking in polish and sporting a fair number of bugs, it is fully functional.

The formal release will be the end of February 2008, but if you’re adventurous and would like to help test Robodance 4’s WiiMote support and gesture recognition capability, you can get that chance in about a week.
