Welcome to the brand new version of GeekAlerts! This time this site has undergone a complete makeover with new graphics, colors and a wider layout.

Probably one of the first things you will notice is the new beautiful logo and header – both created by the talented Swedish web designer Mario Eklund.

We also have a couple of new features that you might find useful. As requested, you can now see how many comments and/or pings each post has (instead of only showing the total number). Simply hover over the ‘Responses’ link for an entry to see a tooltip about the number of comments and pings.

You will also find a new “Post Options” box towards the end of each news entry. This section provides you with links to bookmarking sites, related posts, tags and category information, and other useful links.

We hope that you like the new GeekAlerts design and the extra functionality it offers. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Get dressed for success with the Mario costume and get ready for some fun in true gaming geek style with the Carrera Mario Kart Go slot-racing system.

This high quality Carrera slot-racing system is fun for racing geeks of all ages as it brings the smash hit Nintendo game to life in a way that pixels and bleeps simply can’t compete with. Featuring top quality 1:43 scale versions of Mario’s colourful B Dasher and Wario’s Brute, Carrera Mario Kart Go is fully licensed by Nintendo so you know you’re racing around in the same crazy vehicles featured in the ludicrously addictive games.

With over 20ft of looping, swooping, curving, swerving race track, this is no walk in the park. There’s even a chicane and a gravity-defying banked section that will have you holding your breath every time you whizz round. Talking of whizzing around, racers control their cars using handheld trigger style speed guns. Mario minus a joystick? Whatever next!

The Mario Kart Go is available for £49.95 (about $100 USD) from Firebox.

The Super Mario Brothers Mushroom Candy tins are approximately 3.5 inches high and available for $3 a pop at the Fractalspin website.

When you’ve polished off the candies inside you can use the tin as a case for small things, like paper clips, push pins, a roll of solder, little screws, or bolts. Since 1UP mushrooms can give your character an extra life, we think these would be great to store pain meds like acetaminophen, allergy pills, or vitamins. If you felt like being clever you could even stuff in a handful of dried mushrooms instead (the kind you cook with, of course–like delicious Porcini or Shitake).

The Super Mario Bros Sound Nuigurumi Series 2 ($25) is available in two models; the Goomba and the Block. Simply hit them to evoke their respective sound effects (scroll down for video demonstrations).

The first Series 2 plush is a golden-colored Question Block (A) which measures 20cm square or 7.87 x 7.87 x 7.87″ in dimension. Similar to the Series 1 Question Block, a sound module is inserted inside a flap on the plush which makes a jingling sound when pounded. Punch it with your fist or hammer it with your head and the familiar Mario game jingle plays sweetly.

The second series 2 plush features the familiar shell of a Koopa Trooper (B). The beast within appears to be in hiding as we don’t see its head nor any of its appendages. A sound module is also inserted inside the Koopa shell which makes noise when attacked.

Unfortunately the alarm clock is out of stock, but maybe you can work something out using the Mario Kart R/C ($40).
