iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet

iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet

It began last year as a ThinkGeek April Fool’s Day gag. But the iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet is no joke, it is a real product. Simply slide in your Apple iPad to transform it into a cool retro desktop arcade machine complete with authentic arcade quality joystick and buttons. It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth, so there are no cable connections to worry about. Simply pop in an iPad and enjoy real retro-arcade gaming action!

Last year for April Fool’s Day, ThinkGeek had a fake iCade iPad arcade cabinet for sale as a joke, similar to this year’s Playmobil Apple Store Set, Minecraft USB Nether Portal, and Lightsaber Popsicles. However, since it was totally feasible and drew such a huge positive reaction, turning the concept into an actual product was quickly investigated. ThinkGeek then partnered with ION to create a real iPad arcade cabinet, and now today we have the ION iCADE.

The ION iCade cabinet provides a safe and secure cradle for your iPad to keep it solidly in place during use. It has a quality joystick and 8 arcade style buttons, providing the flexibility to play many different games. Atari has built-in iCade support on classic video game titles like Asteroids. Many more iCade compatible iPad games are sure to follow, as the API is available to software developers.
