Glass Multi-Touch Keyboard and Mouse

Well this proves it, the future is now. The Glass Multi-Touch Keyboard and Mouse is something you’d expect to see on the big screen in blockbuster sci-fi movies; it’s not something that you’d think you could actually get your hands on. Well, this Kickstarter program is set to become a reality with plenty of funding from its pledgers and those lucky few are going to be the first to explore this modern looking masterpiece.

Designed to look simplistic and modern, the multi-touch keyboard and mouse have no wires and no moving parts. Components consist of tempered glass, rechargeable lithium polymer batteries, a metal base, and existing technology to bring it all together. It also features tactile sounds and lighting that can be turned on or off.

Futuristic Tempered Glass Mouse and Keyboard

The design is based on a touch screen technology known as FTIR or Frustrated Total Internal Reflection. There are basically infrared LEDs placed at the edge of the glass. In this case, they are hidden inside holes where the glass is mounted to the metal base. Because of the low angle at which the light impacts the internal glass surface, it is bounced around inside the glass, much like looking through a tube to see the reflections on the inside walls. When the glass is touched it frustrates the reflection and the IR light is diffused downward, out of the glass, allowing the camera to see it. Software then determines the location and sends the appropriate information to your computer.

Just in case you are wondering, they are drink resistant and can easily be cleaned up. To learn more and to hopefully bring a little piece of the future to your office or home, go to Kickstarter.com.
