A quality camera bag is important to protect your camera and to keep it, as well as all related accessories, easily accessible. When LoveCases invited us to do a review of a camera bag, I jumped at a chance to get a review sample to house GeekAlerts’ new Sony NEX-5N digital camera. After looking over their Camera Bags for a suitable Sony NEX 5N Case I settled on the Case Logic SLMC-202. It turns out it was a good choice, as the camera with the 18-55mm lens attached fits well in the main section even with the lens hood attached. It also fits snugly with the 18-200mm lens attached, although in that case it is necessary to detach the lens hood.
While this might not be the camera bag for a professional photographer, who likely has a bigger camera, more lenses, and extra accessories, the Case Logic SLMC-202 is a great size for the Sony NEX-5N. The bag is compact, which is ideal for me since I don’t like carrying extra bulk around. Despite its compact size, there is a surprising amount of room inside.
As mentioned the front compartment nicely accommodates the camera, even with the large 18-200mm lens, and there’s room for the lens hood up there too. In the back compartment there is plenty of space to put the instruction manual, extra memory cards, cleaning cloths, cables, and other accessories. It’s actually an ideal place for the manual and memory cards, because the waterproof EVA back has enough stiffness to keep them from getting folded or damaged.
I haven’t had the chance for any long term stress testing of the Case Logic SLMC-202 compact camera bag, but it appears to be exceptionally well built. Pulling on the straps and seams show them to be very strong. Excellent materials are used, such as the memory foam lining for the interior padding. Case Logic is so confident in the quality they back it up with an impressive 25 year warranty.
Although the manufacturer was clearly focused on function and quality, I like the style myself. Sure, it is rather plain and certainly not flashy, but it is also sleek and modern at the same time. It is easy enough to judge this for yourself from the pictures.
