Akai SynthStation 25

If you’re a songwriter or composer, maybe inspiration often hits you when you’ve got no piano or keyboard at hand. With the Akai SynthStation 25, you can play, record and produce tunes on the go using an inexpensive app via your iPod or iPhone. Now you can skip the unwanted trip to the studio and focus on your music.

Not much larger than a full-sized laptop, the SynthStation 25’s standout feature is its portability. Though small in size and operable by batteries, don’t underestimate this machine’s capabilities. The SynthStation 25 has 25 keys, as its name suggests, and gives you two full octaves to work with, starting with the key of C. By using the SynthStation app, you can adjust the octaves higher or lower to create a wide range of melodies and accompaniments. On the left-hand side are pitch and modulation wheels.

If you’re adding other sounds like drum beats, the SynthStation gives you several choices of drum sounds and drum kits, just like a synthesizer would. The drum buttons are accessible through your iPod/iPhone touchscreen.

Compatible with MIDI music software, the SynthStation’s Sequencer will allow you to save and edit song snippets or entire tracks. There’s even a mixer for each of the three given synthesizers, equipped with touch-controlled fader switches to create professional sound effects.

Nobody’s making fun of the one-man band anymore, especially after hearing your dope-sounding tunes. To get your hands on the Akai SynthStation 25, go to Firebox where it’s being sold for £74.99 with free delivery.

Another extremely portable music gadget operating via Apple apps is the Numark iDJ Live.
