After seeing the Black & White Clock, I can now say that this is the only true minimalist wall clock because it doesn’t even have a face. Rather, it’s just a set of four figures that light up to show the current time. No frame, no face, no muss, and no fuss. Just plain old numbers and nothing more.
You get nothing less either. The clock is a concept and the designers are working on a way to produce the clock commercially without passing on the high cost of OLED screens and accumulators to the consumer.
Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. A light sensor will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of day and black at daytime.

The Black & White Clock concept is truly fascinating in its extreme minimalism. The idea of having no face or frame, just OLED figures that light up, really challenges our conventional understanding of what a clock should look like. I appreciate the thought put into the invert mode for day and night visibility. It’s a shame the high cost of OLED and accumulators is a barrier to production, but I hope they find a way to make it affordable. This design reminds me of how function can drive form in the most beautiful ways.
